Texas Bluebonnet Award
The Texas Bluebonnet Award program encourages children in third to sixth grade to read many genres. A Master List of 20 books is chosen each year. Children need only to read five. Then they are eligible to vote for their favorite book in January. In February, the winning author is notified, and in April, they are honored at the annual luncheon given at the Texas Library Association's Annual Conference. This year, classes have read A Fine Dessert by Emily Jenkins.
Last year's winner was When the Beat was Born: DJ Kool Herc and the Creation of Hip Hop by Laban Carrick Hill.
