Teaching Philosophy

I believe every child has the ability to learn. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses.  It is possible to make a weakness a strength through perseverance and effort and if a strength is left unattended it can become a weakness.  Students learn at different rates and levels.  This is why I make every effort to review, reinforce, and re-teach.

Attitude is also very important in meeting goals and having success.  I do not believe in “can’t, too hard, forgot, not good at”.  Excuses are obstacles or barriers that lead us to become unsuccessful.  I believe we need to set up goals with high standards.

Learning is a never-ending process.  I am still learning and willing to make changes that will make me a better teacher.

Teaching Background

I was born and raised in El Paso.  I attended the University of Texas at El Paso.  I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Generic Special Education and Elementary Education.  I taught Special Education (BIC) for fourteen years, 3rd grade for 2 years, Math Leader for 3 years, and this is my 13th year in 5th.  I am currently on my 32nd year of teaching and all of them at Hawkins Elementary.  I am also certified to teach Gifted and Talented.  I have a great passion for my profession.
